Islands High School, located at 170 Whitemarsh Island Road in Savannah, hosts two of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s (SCCPSS) most distinctive Choice Programs: Biological & Environmental Scientific Research and Veterinary Science. Both draw applicants from across Chatham County through the district’s lottery process, making them accessible to students well beyond the Whitemarsh Island and Islands area itself.
Biological & Environmental Scientific Research Program
This program introduces students to real-world scientific inquiry through traditional and project-based learning, paired with Honors and/or AP-level science coursework. Students develop a research idea, design and conduct a study, and analyze and report their findings — hands-on preparation for college-level research and STEM careers.
Veterinary Science Program
The Veterinary Science Program covers Basic Agriculture, Small Animal Care, and Veterinary Science coursework, giving students a foundation in animal health careers through classroom instruction and hands-on experience, including internships during senior year.
How Admission Works
Both programs are SCCPSS Choice Programs, open to applicants districtwide through the annual lottery — residency in a specific attendance zone isn’t required to apply.
