Savannah Arts Academy is the visual and performing arts magnet high school of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS), located at 500 Washington Avenue in Savannah’s Baldwin Park neighborhood. It’s one of the district’s most competitive Choice Programs, drawing applicants from across Chatham County through SCCPSS’s lottery and audition process rather than a home attendance zone — meaning families anywhere in the district, from Savannah to Pooler to Richmond Hill, can apply.
The school serves grades 9 through 12 and offers concentrations across music, dance, theater, visual arts, and media arts, layered on top of a full academic curriculum.
How Admission Works
Savannah Arts Academy admission is a two-part Choice Program process. Phase I is an academic screening through SCCPSS’s online Choice Program application. Students who meet the academic requirements move to Phase II, an audition in their chosen artistic discipline. Every student who auditions is ranked on a 1–100 scale, and seats are filled according to audition ranking within each performing arts area — notably, sibling preference does not apply to Savannah Arts Academy applications, which sets it apart from most other SCCPSS Choice Programs.
Considering the School Zone?
Because Savannah Arts Academy is a Choice Program rather than a zoned school, residency in a specific neighborhood isn’t required to apply — any SCCPSS resident can enter the lottery. That said, its Baldwin Park location puts it close to Savannah’s Midtown, Historic District, and Victorian District neighborhoods.
